Bio for Rick Abma
Rick Abma was born on a dairy farm in Agassiz, a small farming community in Southwest British Columbia; he is the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Abbotsford Christian High School, and working in construction, he went on to Dordt College (Iowa) where he graduated with a BA in Radio and Television communications. This was followed by a 5 year career in broadcasting. During his fifth year in radio, Rick was encouraged to continue his education since he dreamed of tying radio with ministry. As a result, he graduated from Calvin Seminary (Michigan) with a MA in Christian Education and has served as youth pastor in Houston, B.C., Woodstock, Ontario, Oakhill Presbyterian in Grand Rapids, Michigan and now has served the WoodyNook congregation here in Central Alberta since 1995. Outside of ministry, he plays hockey, windsurfs, hikes and works with wood. Married in 1993 to a Winnipeger, they have 4 children and live on an acreage near Gull Lake. Currently Rick is hosting a weekly radio show, “Sunnyside Up” on www.sunny94.com.
